Aleksander Barkov did an incredible trick
The Panthers’ Finnish captain got a tasty surprise.
The season is still underway, but Aleksander Barkov, 29, has already received his first personal awards.
The Florida Panthers’ Finnish captain was announced on Monday as the winner of the prestigious Frank J. Selke Award for the 2024–25 season. It is the award for the best defensive forward, which Barkov has now won for the third time.
The Finn was also awarded the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is given to a player who has demonstrated leadership and contributed to the community.
The matter came to light at a Panthers team meeting, where children were invited to tell Barkov the surprise news. You can watch the situation in the video below.
Before Barkovia, the King Clancy Memorial has gone to Finnish players Saku Koivu (2006–07) and Pekka Rinte (2020–21).
Florida will face the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Finals starting Thursday night.
