Sami Ylisaari appointed as new cultural director

Vantaa appointed a new cultural director at its last meeting of the council term on Monday.

Sami Ylisaari has been elected as the new cultural director of Vantaa, the city announces.

Ylisaari is currently working as the cultural director of the City of Oulu. He has worked in the cultural sector for 20 years, the last seven years as cultural director in Järvenpää and Oulu, according to the city’s press release.

Ylisaari did not want to comment on the matter to HS earlier on Monday evening.

The position of Vantaa’s cultural director will become vacant at the beginning of October, when the long-time holder of the position, Annukka Larkio, retires. The applicants included well-known people in the cultural sector, such as Rosa Meriläinen, secretary general of the Kulta ry, the central organization for culture and the arts.
