Italy head coach fired
The Italian national football team is looking for a new head coach.
Luciano Spalletti has been fired as head coach of the Italy national football team, just days after Italy suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat to Norway in World Cup qualifying.
The Italians’ defeat sparked panic in the country about missing out on the World Cup again. The traditional football nation last appeared in the World Cup finals in 2014.
Spalletti himself confirmed his resignation at a press conference on Sunday. He said that Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina informed him of the sacking on Saturday evening.
– We spoke last night and Gravina told me that I was being dismissed. I myself had no intention of giving up. I would have liked to stay in the job and continue my work. I will be there tomorrow against Moldova, and then we will conclude my contract, Spalletti said.
Spalletti coached the Azzurri from August 2023. Spalletti’s record was ultimately poor: 11 wins, 6 draws and 6 losses.
