The perfect summer destination just an hour from Helsinki – 8 reasons why Haikko is worth a visit
Just a stone’s throw from Helsinki and idyllic Porvoo, the unique summer paradise of Manor & Spa Hotel Haiko opens up. It combines the peace of nature, summer activities and a classic manor atmosphere.
It is easy to reach the Manor & Spa Hotel Haikko, whether you are travelling by car, boat, bike, bus or even helicopter. This summer, charming Haikko offers even more experiences.
Here are eight reasons why Haikko is the perfect summer destination for you.
1. Enjoy the local marine nature
The outdoor trails starting from Haikko Gate lead visitors to the peace of the sea and forest. You can rent bikes, SUP boards or kayaks from the hotel reception and explore the local nature on water or land.
A beautiful coastal path leads to Porvoo, along which you can also explore the landscapes loved by the artist Albert Edelfelt.
2. Move around the manor landscapes
The green surroundings of the Manor Park invite you to get active. The area features a frisbee golf course, padel and beach volleyball courts, as well as volleyball and croquet equipment, which can be borrowed from the hotel reception.
The highlight of Saturday mornings is the popular park yoga in the manor’s park.
The sports performance is crowned with relaxing baths in a log sauna and a dip in the sea.
3. Discover Old Porvoo
Just a short distance from Haikon, Porvoo awaits – one of Finland’s most beloved summer towns. Colorful wooden houses, narrow cobblestone streets and historic waterfront buildings provide the perfect setting for a summer day.
Visit local boutiques, enjoy handmade treats, and stop at idyllic cafes.
4. Arrive by sea – M/S J.L. Runeberg stops in Haikko
In the summer, the nostalgic M/S J.L. Runeberg cruises between Helsinki and Porvoo, stopping at Haikko’s own pier upon request. The cruise offers an exhilarating way to arrive at the peace of the manor or continue your journey through the archipelago.
Travelers can stay overnight in Haiko’s unique milieu and continue their journey the next day to Porvoo or Helsinki – or stop by Haiko on a summer day trip.
5. Summer theater in a manor house setting
You don’t have to leave the Haiko Manor area for a theater experience. This summer, the Haiko Manor area will host the Porvoo Summer Theatre’s musical backstage comedy A Ridiculous Marriage, Part 2 – When Porvoo is Not Enough.
Ridiculous Marriage, Part 2 – When Porvoo is not enough
The play premieres on July 15th, and performances continue until August 3rd.
6. Atmospheric musical moments
On summer Fridays, the terrace of Haikon Manor is filled with live music starting at 7 pm. The performances will include troubadour Henriksson, singer Jussu Pöyhönen, Mia Rämä and Ari “Selkä” Pulkkinen.
On Midsummer’s Eve, accordionist Luis Herrero will create an atmosphere on the manor’s terrace, and at Villa Haiko, tango king Keijo Hietikko and the dance orchestra Lakia will star on Midsummer’s Eve.
7. Summer food in the style of a manor house
The manor restaurant’s table settings combine history and modernity: old silverware has been reused, and the kitchen uses produce from the manor’s own garden – seasonal vegetables, herbs and edible flowers.
The special summer menu is a tribute to artist Albert Edelfelt’s friend, sculptor Ville Vallgren.
8. Edelfelt’s studio and Villa Albert – art meets history
The Haikko Manor area is known for its several villas, where cultural figures came to spend their summers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The most famous of these was Albert Edelfelt, who spent 26 summers in Haikko and painted over 220 works in landscapes inspired by the area.
The exhibition in the studio, which now serves as a museum, tells the story of Edelfelt and his family’s summers in Haikko. In addition, the works of Edelfelt’s friend, sculptor Ville Vallgren, will be exhibited this summer in the Villa Albert located in the courtyard.
