Hungary rushed to Russia’s aid: “We are ready”

According to Russian media, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó is about to let Russian sports go.

The Russian Sport-Express writes that EU country Hungary has helped Russia, which is in a sports ban.

Russia is not allowed to compete in international games with other countries because of its war of aggression.

However, it seems to have found a friend in Hungary, also in the sports sector.

According to Sport-Express, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, a politician from the ruling Fidesz party, commented to Russian media that Hungary had helped the Russians.

This is what it’s all about

The EU would have liked to put the football clubs CSKA Moscow and Rostov on the sanctions list, but S-E claims that the Hungarians used their veto power in the matter.

– We used a bet. Football clubs are not responsible for political tensions.

“We said that if they are on the sanctions list, we will use the veto,” Szijjártó is reported to have told the Russian website.

In February, Hungary prevented 27 Russian sports organizations or clubs from being placed on EU sanctions lists. One of these was the Russian Olympic Committee.

Additional help

Sport-Express asked the Hungarian Foreign Minister whether Hungary intends to offer its assistance if and when Russia is allowed to return to the sports fields at some point.

The answer was yes.

– We are always open to it if the national team cannot play on their home field like Belarus now. Or Israel, whose home games we also organize.

In his words, the minister referred to the fact that Hungary has offered its stadiums for use by Belarus and Israel, when these countries have had to play their home games on neutral soil.

Matches coming up

Russia can also expect Hungarian support.

– If Russia needs a game arena, we are ready, Szijjártó commented, according to Sport-Express.

In addition, Sport-Express reported that the Russian men’s national football team may play against the national teams of Chile and Uruguay in the fall.

Russia faced Nigeria and Belarus in friendlies in June. Grenada and Zambia have also agreed to play football against the Russians this year.
