Unrestrained competition in the men’s javelin – Jymy’s surprise winner sets a record
Neeraj Chopra won the Paris Diamond League event with an 88-meter throw. The Brazilian man made a splash.
The Paris Diamond League saw a very high-quality javelin throw competition among the top three men.
India’s Neeraj Chopra won with a result of 88.16 meters and Germany’s Julian Weber was second (87.88). The men threw their longest slices in the opening round.
Chopra got his revenge on Weber, as in the Doha Diamond League, when the men’s javelin was last in the diamond series in May, the German overtook the Indian in the final round. In the winds of Qatar, the men’s results were 91.06 and 90.23 meters.
Luiz da Silva threw a surprise on Midsummer’s Eve. The Brazilian set a new South American record in Paris. The result of 86.62 meters was enough for third place.
World champion Anderson Peters softened and finished fifth with a score of 80.29.
Fourth place would be taken by 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott.

Hard lifting
The 25-year-old Brazilian has improved significantly over the past two seasons. In 2023, his personal best was 82.21, after last season it was 85.91 and now it is 86.62.
Da Silva is a three-time Brazilian javelin champion. He was third at the South American Championships in 2023.
The man is in the best shape of his life, as the four races of the 2025 season have produced results: 82.03, 86.34, 85.29 and 86.62.
There were no Finns in Friday’s javelin competition.
