Escaped parrots found

Another of the parrots that escaped from Lintuvaara in Espoo was found near Vantaa.

The parrots Safena and Atlas, who escaped from Lintuvaara in Espoo, have returned home after almost a week of escape.

One of the birds was found in Uusmäki, Espoo, and the other in Vaskipello, Vantaa.

The volunteer organization Helpparrot received sightings of birds from various parts of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area during the search.

The parrots that had been on the run for almost a week have returned home.

The parrot couple Safena and Atlas, more commonly known as Paprika and Tomato, escaped from their home in Lintuvaara, Espoo, on Monday.

The birds’ owner, Koli Mobin, received information from the volunteer organization Helpparrot about a parrot seen in Kaivoksela, Vantaa, on Friday afternoon.

The hours-long ambush began. Mobin especially thanks the Helpparrot volunteer who patiently waited for the bird to come down from the tree.

The parrot was in no hurry to go home, but the bird was leisurely nibbling on leaves.

“We watched it for three hours,” Mobin says.

After the operation, Mobin was finally able to return home with his parrot.

Shortly after the first escapee returned home, news of another parrot arrived. It had been seen about a kilometer away in Uusmäki.

Again, Mobin and Pesuee rushed to the scene. They put a loudspeaker in the cage that played the call sounds and the escapee’s delicacy, millet ears. They also brought along some of the family’s small birds so that the familiar sounds would attract the parrot to the group.

This bird flew into the cage after only half an hour of waiting.

“It must have been really hungry,” Mobin laments.

Both birds seem to be doing well. However, Mobin plans to take them to the vet for a check-up after the holidays, just to be on the safe side.

Finding the birds was a Midsummer salvation for the family. The loss of pets was stressful, especially for the children, and worry weighed on everyone’s minds.

“I’ll sleep well again tonight.”
