Horrible announcement about Armand Duplantis’ ME
Armand Duplantis stars in Ostrava’s traditional athletics competitions.
Swedish pole vault star Armand Duplantis will compete in the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics event with a new world record in mind.
Duplantis moved Stockholm to a ME height of 628 in the Diamond League. According to the AFP news agency, “Mondo” said before the Ostrava competition that he is aiming for 630 as soon as possible.
At the same time, the Swede said that even the staggering height of 640 is still within the realm of possibility.
– That would of course be incredible and at the moment it seems achievable, Duplantis said on Tuesday in Ostrava.
Duplantis jumped a new European result of 628 in the Stockholm Diamond League on June 15. As incredible as it sounds, Duplantis was not feeling very well at the time.
– I didn’t feel at my best. It was probably the worst feeling I’ve ever had in a world record jump.
A world record in front of a home crowd was the only major milestone the 25-year-old pole star was still missing. Now that too has been achieved.
– I celebrated it pretty hard, but now I feel completely recovered and ready to jump again.
“Completely possible”
Iltalehti’s athletics expert Arto Bryggare considers a new European Championship result to be entirely possible on Tuesday evening.
– He is in such good condition that he can jump 630. If the conditions are right, a new world record is entirely possible.
Bryggare gives “Mondo”‘s opponents some scary news: that the European Championship result seen in Stockholm was just the beginning.
– It was such a splash in zero wind. When he gets a strong tailwind, that’s when we’ll be flying, Bryggare predicts.
In addition to Duplantis, the Czech evening will feature other top athletics stars. The men’s javelin will be headlined by Neeraj Chopra, who threw over 90 meters earlier this spring.
This time, the 400 meters without hurdles will be run by Dutchman Femke Bol, and in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, the tough Americans Grant Holloway and Dylan Beard will take the starting line.
The Finns are represented by javelin thrower Toni Keränen.
