Espoo starts charging a fee for moving electric scooters

The city will also increase the fees it charges for vehicle storage.

Espoo will start charging a 60 euro fee for moving micro-transport vehicles, such as electric scooters, starting in August.

According to the law, renting micromobility vehicles requires a permit. The law also gives cities the ability to remove illegally parked vehicles.

In addition to charging a transfer fee, Espoo will increase the weekly fee for vehicle storage from 24 euros to 100 euros for the week beginning.

Espoo will introduce a new fee in August. From now on, the city will charge 60 euros if it has to move so-called micro-transport vehicles, such as electric scooters.

The amount corresponds to the general parking fine. It is charged for the transfer of all light electric vehicles, including electric bicycles.

In Helsinki, the corresponding fee is 55 euros. In Vantaa, the bill is based on the price list of private service providers.

According to the law approved by Parliament in June, the rental of micromobility equipment will in future require a permit.

The municipal parking enforcement and street maintenance department may remove illegally parked vehicles and charge for it according to their price list.

This is made possible by the Act on the Transfer of Vehicles. The fees are collected from the owner or holder of the vehicle. The invoice can therefore go to either the scooter company or the consumer, depending on the case.

There will also be changes to the weekly fees charged for vehicle storage. A vehicle may be moved to storage if it has been parked incorrectly.

The fees in Espoo will increase from the current 24 euros to 100 euros per week starting this week. The new price is more in line with the rates charged by neighboring municipalities.

Helsinki charges 100 or 200 euros per week for vehicle storage, depending on the weight. In Vantaa, storage costs are 60 or 120 euros, respectively.

The Espoo Technical Committee unanimously decided on the fees in June.
