A big deal happened in the NHL – Top prospect changes teams
Trevor Zegras will not be the Ducks’ man going forward.
The Anaheim Ducks have traded skill forward Trevor Zegras, 24, to the Philadelphia Flyers, multiple insiders say.
Ryan Poehling, the 45th pick in this summer’s draft and a fourth-round pick next summer, will be traded from Pennsylvania to California.
Zegras is the Ducks’ No. 1 pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The organization drafted the young Yankee as the 19th player in the entire draft.
The young hockey player is known for his impressive individual performances. He has scored several aerial goals in the NHL, among other things.
Zegras’ contract runs through next season, after which he will become a restricted free agent. He is currently making $5.75 million per season under his current deal.
The former super promise failed to rise to the level in Anaheim that the club expected its reserve to be capable of.
The team expected Zegras to be a top-tier scorer, but his best season so far was 65 points, which isn’t bad, but the Ducks expected even more.
Anaheim has plenty of young promise, so the organization can afford to give up the potential of the offensive head.
With the trade, the club’s top-flight centre forward positions will likely be occupied by Swede Leo Carlsson and Canadian Mason McTavish next season.
