A disaster for Italy in football!
Norway won the World Cup qualifying match 3–0.
Italy suffered a complete fiasco in their opening match of the World Cup qualifiers.
The country was catastrophically eliminated from the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
The 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign didn’t really start well either.
Norway defeated the Italians 3–0 at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo.
Only the top team in the qualifying group will qualify directly for the World Cup tournament, and for Norway this is already the third game in the ongoing qualifiers.
Norway strong
Unfortunately for the Italians, the Norwegians have already won their two previous games. Moldova and Israel were defeated in March.
Atlético Madrid’s top striker Alexander Sørloth gave Norway the lead on the 15th minute. Antonio Nusa added to the lead after just over half an hour, and superstar Erling Haaland extended the lead to three just before the break.
There were no more goals in the second period.
It’s still early to speculate, but Italy last played in the World Cup in 2014.
If the football-loving country were to miss out on the final tournament for the third time in a row, its men’s team would not play in the World Cup until 2030 at the earliest. The Azzurri would have had a break of at least 16 years since their last World Cup appearance.
