Lauri Markkanen’s son became enthusiastic about ice hockey

Lauri Markkanen is happy about the NHL’s expansion.

Lauri Markkanen gets excited as soon as he is asked about the NHL team called the Utah Mammoth.

– It was nice. The boy got so excited about hockey that we played a lot of games at the hall. He started playing a little himself, Markkanen told Iltalehti.

Mammoth began its NHL journey last fall under the working name Utah Hockey Club. It plays its home games in the same Delta Center as the Utah Jazz, which Markkanen represents.

Markkanen already took to the ice in the NHL club’s home opener of the season. The superstar has a solid background in the sport since childhood.

– As someone from Jyväskylä, JYP has always played a big role in my life. I’m a hockey fan. It was really cool to see hockey come there.

There are two Finns on Mammoth’s roster. Of them, Olli Määttä comes from the same area as Markkanen.

Matias Maccelli, on the other hand, is a TPS graduate.

It is clear that Finns have found a common ground in their free time as well.

– I made a few more friends.

Markkanen is naturally preparing for the European Basketball Championship, which starts in Tampere at the end of August.

A few weeks earlier, the city was competing for World Championship medals in another sport he loves, frisbee golf.

– I watched so much that I think we’re at camp at the same time. I won’t be able to watch the games.

– I hope I have time to visit my friends during the break.
