Lukas Hradecky’s heartbreaking jab at the Dutchman – “I would have been ashamed of my eyes”

Hradecky zeroed in on his teammate. It was delicious.

Lukas Hradecky would reportedly not have been able to sleep on Saturday night if Jeremie Frimpong had headed the goal.

The Huuhkajie goalkeeper stretched his leg to block a header from the 172-centimeter Dutch winger, keeping the score at 0–1 at that point.

– If that guy had scored a goal with his head, then… I see every day in training that he doesn’t even dare to head it. I would have been ashamed of my eyes if he had headed the goal now, Hradecky said after the World Cup qualifying defeat.

The duo have known each other for a long time from Bayer Leverkusen. However, they will almost certainly part ways now. Frimpong is moving on.

Hradecky was powerless in the setbacks. The Netherlands defeated Finland 2–0. The Owls are still on four points after three matches.

A new companion is waiting

Hradecky’s situation is also a bit open. On Saturday, the Dutch goal was saved by Mark Flekken, who Leverkusen acquired from Brentford a few days ago.

– I had a few words with him after the game. I asked if we were talking in German or English. He seems like a nice guy, Hradecky said.

Last season, Hradecky shared a lot of responsibility with Matej Kovar. Now the Finn’s responsibility threatens to decrease even further.

– I’m not going to give my place away for free. Let’s see if there’s some kind of hybrid model for the game.

– I have a contract with Leverkusen, but I can’t promise anything one way or the other. I’ll definitely consider it if a unique offer comes from somewhere where I’m sure I’ll get to play.

Dangerous Gakpo

The Dutch 0–2 goal came from an almost identical situation to the one Frimpong had managed to score from moments earlier.

Cody Gakpo cut in from the wing with the ball and sent a cross towards the back post.

Robert Ivanov of the Huuhakas could have intervened, but he decided to let the ball through. Denzel Dumfries meanwhile ran from behind Jere Uronen towards the back post and finished.

In this situation, Hradecky did not ask Ivanov to let the cross pass.

– We had been through those situations. “Roba” must have thought that the concentration would go through and over the line.

However, the mistake had already happened. Gakpo shouldn’t have had his foot so freely. He was always dangerous near the box with the ball.

– Those situations should have been doubled and the crosses covered. He’s got some pretty high-quality balls coming out of his feet. But the guy plays for Liverpool, Hradecky said.

Hradecky, who played his 100th senior match, also saw some good things in the match. The early goals were disappointing, but he thought there was a lot of courage on the field to attack. Of course, the Netherlands had also downshifted in those moments.

– I can be proud of what we showed on the field at times.

Poland will step onto the pitch of the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday.

– That’s the match you need to take points from.
