Man fleeing police arrested on suspicion of aggravated theft
The chase began on Friday, June 27, in Vantaa, and ended in Tapulikaupunki, Helsinki. The man is also suspected of several other crimes, police say.
A man who fled from the police last Friday has been arrested in the Eastern Uusimaa District Court on probable cause suspicion of aggravated theft.
The head of the investigation into the case, Detective Inspector Rauno Jämsä, reports on the matter in a police statement.
In addition to aggravated theft, the man is suspected of aggravated endangering traffic safety, driving a vehicle without a license, drunk driving, drug use, and disobedience to the police, Jämsä states.
The criminal charges may be further clarified during the preliminary investigation.
The events began on Friday, June 27th in the early hours of the morning, when a car dealership on Petikontie in Vantaa was broken into.
Two cars were stolen from the store, one of which was spotted by police in traffic in Vantaa on the same day at around 5:50 p.m.
When the police patrol tried to stop the car, the driver sped away and drove along Tuusulaväylä towards Helsinki.
The man drove well over the speed limit and violated other traffic rules, and according to the police, caused dangerous situations for other road users and light traffic.
The police caught the man after a half-hour escape in Tapulikaupunki, Helsinki.
The police are asking anyone who was in danger during the chase or anyone who witnessed any dangerous situations during the chase to provide their contact information by email to ryr.ita-uusimaa@poliisi.
