NHL clubs will be able to sign deals with free agents starting July 1. Iltalehti presents the ten biggest deals.

1. Mitch Marner, Toronto

Age: 28

Playing position: winger

Previous contract: 10.9 million

By far the hottest name on the transfer market. The talented winger broke the 100-point barrier for the first time last season, scoring 102 (27+75) points in 81 games in the Finnish Cup.

Marner’s salary is likely to be around $13 million. Las Vegas has been the most aggressive team in his pursuit, and the superstar would undoubtedly fit his style.

Carolina, led by Sebastian Aho, is also looking to strengthen its lineup this summer, and Marner’s huge salary would not be a problem for the Hurricanes.

2. Aaron Ekblad, Florida

Age: 29

Playing position: defender

Previous contract: 7.5 million

The Florida club icon is in the starting lineup, as the two-time champion is tight with the salary cap. In addition, Seth Jones has been scheduled to play in the first team for the coming years.

Ekblad would be a great top player for any club, but it’s still not worth building an entire organization around him. He’s not a leader. You saw that in Florida.

Staying in Florida isn’t entirely impossible if Ekblad agrees to a hefty salary, but the man will most likely seek big pensions in Utah, for example.

3. Nikolaj Ehlers, Winnipeg

Age: 29

Playing position: winger

Previous contract: 6 million

Ehlers has played his entire NHL career in Winnipeg, but now the speedster is in the starting lineup. The Dane had one of the best seasons of his career in terms of scoring average, with 63 points (24+39) in 69 regular season games.

A salary increase is probably obvious, but which club will offer it? Patrik Laine’s good friend from the Jets years has been linked to Carolina, among others, which has a lot to offer. The fast-footed winger would also fit in with Carolina’s fast puck.

4. Brock Boeser, Vancouver

Age: 28

Playing position: winger

Previous contract: 6.65 million

The sniper, who scored 40 goals in his best season, has been the subject of transfer rumours for a long time. The man himself has also expressed his longing for a new landscape.

Although last season was modest in terms of points (25+25=50), Boeser could well get a raise on the free market. An eight million dollar bill wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

Many clubs are certainly interested in the man’s services. Toronto needs a replacement for Marner. Edmonton also currently has a vacancy for Evander Kane.

5. Brad Marchand, Florida

Age: 37

Playing position: winger

Previous contract: 6.125 million

Marchand experienced a new beginning in Florida. The man played a real cannonball alongside Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen. The veteran continues to lead Florida’s championship celebrations with the host’s manner, but will the flying weather continue next season?

The man has expressed his desire to stay in Florida, which is a possible option if Ekblad pulls the trigger. If there is no extension, Toronto is at least after the man.

6. Mikael Granlund, Dallas

Age: 33

Playing position: forward

Previous contract: 5 million

Granlund had an excellent spring in Dallas, although his power points dropped from his time with the Sharks. His final season total was 83 games and 66 points.

The versatile forward is highly regarded by the Stars’ management team. However, the salary cap is a problem that is weighing him down.

A young team like the Sharks would make a truly exemplary leader out of Granlund, but the man is unlikely to want to join a team that is struggling in the final years of his career. The St. Louis Blues are at least interested in Granlund’s skills.

7. Vladislav Gavrikov, Los Angeles

Age: 29

Playing position: defender

Previous contract: 5.875 million

The reliable two-way broom is one of the hottest names on the transfer market this summer. The wildest rumors have Gavrikov earning up to eight million taela per season.

The Los Angeles Kings are interested in keeping the Russian player, and negotiations with the club are still ongoing. Among other clubs, at least the New York Rangers have shown interest in Gavrikov.

8. Patrick Kane, Dertoit

Age: 36

Playing position: winger

Previous contract: 4 million

The former superstar is no longer a top player for a top club, but Kane is still a useful player for the second line and for the power forward.

The all-time veteran scored a comfortable 59 (21+38) points in 72 games last season in poor Detroit.

Detroit GM Steve Yzerman has publicly stated that he wants Kane to stay with the team. But does Kane still want to go to a top team to chase the pitcher? How would the Winnipeg Jets sound, with former radar pair Jonathan Toews playing next season?

9. Ivan Provorov, Columbus

Age: 28

Playing position: defender

Previous contract: 6.75 million

According to media rumors, Columbus has offered Provorov both long and short deals, but the Russian has not yet signed them.

The versatile defenseman has been linked to at least the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Utah Mammoth and Los Angeles Kings in transfer rumors.

Provorov’s decision will certainly be greatly influenced by where Gavrikov ends up.

10. Brent Burns, Carolina

Age: 40

Playing position: defender

Previous contract: 8 million

Burns continues to produce decent results on the offensive end with superiority, but the slow and error-prone slouch is not helping matters in his own head.

He could still be a superior precision weapon in a middle-class team, but he’s unlikely to be in the top teams anymore. His salary will drop drastically if his career continues.
