The Finnish star of the finals lives in a tax haven for retirees – Attention to summer weather: “Start now”
Anton Lundell told about life in Florida.
Finnish NHL stars Aleksander Barkov, Eetu Luostarinen, Anton Lundell and Niko Mikkola are living the hockey player’s dream in the retirement paradise of Florida.
The state tax is low, which means that players get to keep a nice chunk of their paycheck. Plus, players can walk around town in relative peace. Florida is not a hockey marketing mecca, so you don’t have to stop every ten meters for a buddy photo.
Among the sports teams in the region, the NBA team Miami Heat and the NFL team Miami Dolphins attract higher viewership figures than the Panthers.
There’s no better weather. Fort Lauderdale has plenty of sun year-round, so you don’t need a down jacket. The sandy beach is also relatively close to the training complex.
So how do players spend their time on off days, in the summer, and during longer breaks?
During the playoffs, the activities during the offseason are different from the regular season, says Lundell, the head coach of the Panthers’ Finnish quartet.
– Yesterday, on the day off, we had some light training at the gym. Otherwise, it was rest. During the playoffs, we take it easy, gather energy and take care of our bodies. Basic things. We eat well and rest.
In the playoffs, few players play without any pain, so rest and relaxation are even more important.
When he has more free time and everyday life is not as hectic, Lundell likes to do normal young man things.
– I like being outside quite a lot. When the weather is good, it feels right to be outside. I like going to the beach and swimming, both on the beach and in the pool. We also go out for lunch and coffee with friends quite a bit, he lists.
Fort Lauderdale has had plenty of heat and sunshine during the Stanley Cup Finals. However, in the summer, the city doesn’t have a constant sun in the sky.
“The rainy season now starts around this time of summer,” Lundell says.
After the third final, it rained heavily in Fort Lauderdale, although the rain only lasted a short while.
It’s good that Lundell is enjoying himself in the southern United States, as his contract will keep him a Panthers player until the summer of 2030.
Rain or shine, the fourth game of the Stanley Cup Final will be played at Sunrise on Friday night, Finnish time. The game starts at 3:00.
