The sensational javelin champion is missing again – Now there’s a new surprise
Olympic javelin throw champion Arshad Nadeem, who has withdrawn from competition again, shared some surprising news.
Arshad Nadeem, the sensational Olympic javelin thrower, came from the darkness of Pakistan to Paris, only to disappear from the competition arenas again.
After last summer’s Olympic gold, the man has exactly one start: at the Asian Championships in South Korea at the end of May, he won gold with a result of 86.40 meters.
– Almost nothing is known about Nadeem’s situation. He and his backers apparently have a pretty clear idea that they will compete a couple of times before the Tokyo World Championships in September, says Arttu Salonen, who is responsible for athlete contracts at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku and the Kuortane Midsummer Games, and who tried to get the Pakistani to Finland.
The organizers of the Paris Diamond League were left with a short stick. On Friday, Neeraj Chopra, Anderson Peters and Julian Weber will compete in the French capital, but not Nadeem.
Last season, Salonen managed to make a deal with Nadeem for the Paavo Nurmi Games, but the athlete withdrew at the last minute, citing knee problems.
Surprise transfers
Earlier this week, Nadeem, 28, made a surprise public appearance. Reached out to his home country, the man told the media that he had been on a training and rehabilitation break.
– I will participate in two or three competitions before the World Championships, Nadeem told Pakistani TV channel A Sports.
The javelin thrower’s coach Salman Iqbal Butt said that his protégé will compete at least in the Polish Diamond League on August 16.
– We have sent Arshad’s application for the Swiss Games and are planning a month-long training camp in England, the coach told A Sports.
Nadeem has competed in only ten different events this decade. In Paris, he improved his record by about three meters and his season best by about 6.5 meters. He won Olympic gold with a result of 92.97 meters.
The Tokyo World Championships will be held from September 13 to 21.
The top result of the 2025 season is Weber’s 91.06 meters. He threw his slice in the winds of Doha in the Diamond League on May 16.
